In order to promote a healthy family life for Canadian citizens with families outside Canada, the Canadian Government on December 1, 2011, introduced a new type of visa called the Super Visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens / permanent residents to visit their family in Canada for up to two years without needing to renew their status.
To apply for the parent and grandparent super visa, you must first prove that you are the parent / grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. Along with this there should also be written proof that your son / grandson meets a minimum income threshold & have enough resources to provide financial support for you expenses including but not limited to travel, accommodation & food.
The rest of the procedure is similar to that of Visitor Visa. What is noteworthy though, is that in addition to an immigration medical examination, you must also purchase private medical insurance with a minimum of 1 year validity with a coverage of atleast CAD $100,000 from a Canadian insurance company.
The application fee for this will be CAD $75 for the Sponsorship application (per application), along with CAD $475 for the principal applicant. If the spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner of the principal applicant or a family member who is 22 years of age or older wants to go along, then an additional fee of CAD $550 will be added to the existing charges.
You application will take upto 9-10 days to process, during which a visa officer will decide if an interview with you is necessary. If an interview is required, you will be notified of the time and place. If or when your application is approved, your passport and documents will be returned to you with / without your visa. The outcome is entirely upon the discretion of the embassy & the strength of your file. We can guide you on how to apply properly in order to get the best chance of approval.
